I’ve recently retired from full-time college teaching (yay!!) but I’ve been busy teaching poetry workshops, taking writing classes myself, and editing a lit mag. I live in southeastern Kentucky where the leaves are changing and the weather is finally cooling.

You can find out more about Marianne on her website.

What are some major accomplishments you have had since your Sweet publication?

I’ve got poems forthcoming in Thimble Literary Magazine and in Women of Appalachia Project. I was at the annual Kentucky Book Festival with my poetry collection, The Girl Singer (UP of KY, 2021), in late October.

Can you tell us about a current/ongoing project that you’re excited about?

I’m editing and finishing what I hope will be my second poetry manuscript.

Who is your favorite author?

I could never choose just one

What is your favorite poem/essay/book?

Again, I couldn’t choose a single title, but I’ve been inspired to keep writing poetry by the works of my many teachers and mentors through the years.

What inspires you to write?

Retirement!

What are you reading right now?

All new releases: Balladz by Sharon Olds, Lark Ascending by Silas House, Runaway by Erin Keane, and Landings: A Crooked Creek Farm Year by Arwen Donahue.

What is your favorite sweet? We would love for you to share a recipe or link to place that serves it. Pictures are great, too!

M&Ms (the classic: no fancy colors or fillings–just the original, please)

Thank you, Marianne, for taking the time to reconnect with us. We look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
