What are some major accomplishments you have had since your Sweet publication?

Crafting the Lyric Essay: Strike a Chord, which contains my piece “Fragmentation Grenade” published in Sweet (Issue 15), will be out with Bloomsbury Academic in March 2024.

Congratulations!! That is fantastic news. Look at that beautiful cover!

Can you tell us about a current/ongoing project that you’re excited about?

Lee Ann Roripaugh and I are coediting The Rose Metal Press Field Guide to Writing the Lyric Essay, forthcoming end of 2025.

Who is your favorite author?

Ooooh, that’s a tough one. I keep coming back to Lucie Brock-Broido‘s language.

What is your favorite poem/essay/book?

Brigit Pegeen Kelly’s “Song“/Diane Seuss’s I hoisted them, two drug dealers/Lee Ann Roripaugh’s Dandarians.

What inspires you to write?

Putting together words in resonant ways, and weird researched factoids.

What are you reading right now?

Lars Horn’s Voice of the Fish: A Lyric Essay.

What is your favorite sweet? We would love for you to share a recipe or link to place that serves it. Pictures are great, too!

Krispy Kreme Original Glazed donuts. I could eat a whole dozen by myself. And have. Their conveyor belt is hypnotic.

Oh those things are dangerous!! There are copycat recipes out there, but we would suggest sticking to the original.

Thank you, Heidi, for taking the time to reconnect with us. We look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
