Down the hall a constant

Down the hall a constant
drilling whirs all day right
up to six pm the dust of
plaster being drilled then
knocked off the walls
dust settling everywhere
in the corridor from
elevator into my apartment

dust footprints on my dark
wooden floor trailing away
into a disappearing body

is that you, my muse, all day
calling me loudly what I
take for noise your calling
saying peace is not out
there but in you in
you in you my child
listen carefully, the
walls are coming
down

Laura Merleau (Instagram: @Poetry_My_Yoga Facebook: Poetry My Yoga) lives in Texas with her mother, sister, and puppy. For the last five years, she taught AP Language and Composition at a high school in China. Upon returning from China, she fell and broke her foot–but is recovering and slowly hoping to return to doing yoga. Laura’s poetry has appeared in The Stillwater Review, The Monarch Review, and Sharkreef.
Her favorite dessert is strawberry shortcake, made with gluten-free biscuits and topped with almond yogurt instead of whipped cream (it may not sound very decadent, but really it’s amazing)!
