We’re thrilled to (finally) announce “Flood: A Hurricane Essay” by April Lim as the winner of our Flash Essay Contest judged by Harrison Candelaria Fletcher. Thank you to all of the wonderful writers who entered our contest and your patience while we recovered from so many setbacks!

On “Flood: A Hurricane Essay,” Harrison said:

“This essay, as its name suggests, is a slow steady build of emotional intensity circling notions of loss, endurance, legacy and transcendence. With stunning word pairings and a fluid lyrical style, this writer wonderfully demonstrates how form enacts content and how love itself is a force of nature.”

RUNNERS UP:
“Skip It” by Sarah Fawn Montgomery

“40-Something Sasquatch Seeking Same” by L. Lanser Rose

The winner and runners up will be published May 24th in Issue 14.2. We hope you will come back to read these amazing pieces. Many thanks to Harrison Candelaria Fletcher for judging our contest and congratulations to him on his NEA Creative Writing Fellowship in Prose 2022!
