What are some major accomplishments you have had since your Sweet publication?

My latest poetry collection, Mom in Space, is out from LSU Press on January 31!

Can you tell us about a current/ongoing project that you’re excited about?

I’m working on a sequence about salt, the Clementine song, and nuclear power, broadly, but it’s still finding itself. Trying to figure out right now if it should all stay and how to make the edges of it less shaggy.

What is your favorite poem/essay/book?

The good old classic “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.” Still so many lines that stick in my head.

What inspires you to write?

Lately, things about science–spaceflight, of course, in my new book, but also other facts that surprise me. The challenge is to write something that isn’t just “here are the cool new things I found out!”–to make a piece with more than one valence, bringing together lived experience, reading/research, and feeling/thought.

What are you reading right now?

I just finished The Exceptions by Kate Zernike about women scientists at MIT and other higher-ed institutions, and on my to-be-read pile are many books by poet-friends and -acquaintances that are out this year: Reader, I by Corey Van Landingham; Exploding Head by Cynthia Marie Hoffman; Surfacing by Emily Tuszynska; Besaydoo by Yalie Kamara; Nonbinary Bird of Paradise by Emilia Phillips–I could go on and on but will stop there.

What is your favorite sweet? We would love for you to share a recipe or link to place that serves it. Pictures are great, too!

Chocolate Bread (Chocolate Loaf Cake)

That look delicious and thanks for a new recipe!

Thank you, Lisa, for taking the time to reconnect with us again! Congratulations on your book. We look forward to seeing more of your work in the future!
