Katherine Indermaur

Although they may seem ancient, mirrors are a fairly new technology in the catalog of human existence. The ability to see ourselves is something most of us take for granted, but Katherine Indermaur asks us to go through the looking glass and into new realms of meaning in her lyric essay, I|I (pronounced by repeating the personal pronoun “I” twice). In this conversation with Fanmail Editor Vahni Kurra, Katherine discusses her own fraught history with mirrors, the importance of writing against shame, and predicts (or perhaps summons?) the dawning of a new age in experimental essays. Enjoy!
