Find Her:

Nancy just finished her MFA program at Antioch University and got a year-long salaried artist job with Artists at Work. She will be bringing arts programming to community garden spaces as a partner with Strength-Based Community Change (SBCC) and Angels Gate Cultural Center (AGCC) in the San Pedro/Wilmington areas of Southern California.

What are some major accomplishments you have had since your Sweet publication?

MFA! Full-time artist job! A few publications in literary journals.

Can you tell us about a current/ongoing project that you’re excited about?

I’ll be helping SBCC build their 1.5-acre community garden space and food forest in a dense urban area to serve the community. As their on-site artist, I’ll be planning some exciting arts and literary events to bring people into the space and introduce them to the practice of community gardening.

Who is your favorite author?

One of them is Mary Oliver forever.

What is your favorite poem/essay/book?

One favorite poem is “Wild Geese” by Mary Oliver.

What inspires you to write?

Nature, being outside, and being in poetry community with others.

What are you reading right now?

Writing Wild: Women Poets, Ramblers, and Mavericks Who Shape How We See the Natural World, by Kathryn Aalto.

What is your favorite sweet? We would love for you to share a recipe or link to place that serves it. Pictures are great, too!

Cheesecake!

Same here! We just tried Japanese cheesecake this past weekend and found it to be a much lighter and less sweet cake with the same flavor. Of course, NY style cheesecake will always be our favorite.

Thank you, Nancy, for taking the time to reconnect with us. We look forward to seeing more of your work in the future and thank you again for contributing to our Asian Solidarity Issue.
